Red Cross Needs Funds

Services through the local chapter of the American Red Cross were described as critically low and without a marked increase in funds, Garrard County could be removed from the program.

“We are having it really, really, rough, local representative Jeremy Blansett said. “There is a possibility of suspending services in Garrard County if we don’t raise money.”

There were 35 people serviced by the local Red Cross locally in 2009, excluding the ice storm and the tornado, Blansett reported. Each one receives vouchers that average about $433.

With fundraisers critical to the success of the organization, Blansett invited everyone to a Chili luncheon to be held at the First Southern National Bank Community Room on March 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.. He also advised that a road block for collections is planned for the near future and the second annual car show is scheduled for Oct. 10. The car show raised $3,000 last year.

Private donations are welcome,  Blansett added. Anyone interested in making a donation to the Red Cross can send it to PO Box 1478, Richmond, KY, 40476-1478. To keep the money strictly in Garrard County, note the request in the memo, Blansett recommended.
