“4th Friday Lunch”
Governor William Owsley House will hold their “4th Friday Lunch” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, September 25th at 656 Stanford Road, Owsley House Carriage House. Cost is $5 per lunch - takeouts available. This will be the final luncheon of the year.
Richmond Powwow Association
The Richmond Powwow Association, Inc. hosts the 2009 Richmond Powwow on September 25, 26 & 27, 2009.
Each year the Richmond Powwow Association, Inc. hosts a Native American Powwow in the Richmond, Kentucky area. This year the powwow will be held at the Battlefield Park, 1546 Battlefield Memorial Hw/US 421, in Richmond, KY. The powwow is a gathering of Native Americans from all over the United States as well as Canada and Mexico. The Native Americans gather in Richmond to help educate the general public about the Native American way of life.
This year the powwow will feature Daniel Tramper, Champion Hoop Dancer, from Cherokee, NC.
The powwow will open to the general public on Friday, September 25, at 5 p.m. with Grand Entry at 6:30 p.m. The powwow will open for the public on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27 at 10 a.m. with Grand Entry at 12 p.m. Admission to the powwow will be $5 for adults and $2 per child maximum $15 per family.
There will be Native American crafts, food, dancing, singing, storytelling, flute playing, vendors, and demonstrations for the public to enjoy.

2009 Patriot Pride 5K Run/Walk Challenge
The 2009 Patriot Pride 5K Run/Walk Challenge will be held Saturday, September 26th, 2009 beginning at 8 a.m. on Main Street, Stanford, KY. Registration fee is $15 or Challenge fee of $25. Challenge run will either compete against one of our boys basketball players or the participant’s choice with the winner receiving the medal or the player running in the challengeres place. Farm Animals At Farmer’s Market
Come out to the Farmer’s Market on Sept 26 from 10 am to 12 pm to see Local farm aminals on display. Bring the children to meet an alpaca, and other farm animals. This will be our last Farmers Market, so come and buy local meat, produce, mums and much more.

The Preston Reunion will be held Sunday, September 27th at Lancaster Baptist Family Life Center. Pot luck meal at noon. Family and friends welcome.
Pollard Reunion
The descendants of Absolem Pollard will gather at the Garrard County Fire Station #1 on Industry Road on Sunday, September 27 for a potluck dinner at 1 p.m. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. A family group chart will be on display showing the 12 children of Absolem and all his descendants. Free Brass Band Performance
The Advocate Brass Band will give a free performance on the lawn of the Owsley House at 4:30 pm on Sunday, September 27. Everyone is invited to bring a chair or blanket and “come sit a spell” enjoying the music. St. William youth group will be selling beverages and snacks.

Paint Lick Gets Recycling Collection Center
You are invited to the unveiling and dedication of the new Paint Lick Permanent Recycling Collection Center on Tuesday, Sept. 29th, at 11 AM in the First Southern National Bank parking lot on KY52 in Paint Lick. Civil War Comes To Life In Garrard County
Come watch the Civil War come to life in Garrard County. This event will be October 2-4th, Camp will open at 10 a.m. every day and battles at 4 p.m. Satuarday, 2 p.m. Sunday. There will be something going on all day everyday. We will have civil war vendors and other crafts. The event will be held at the Garrard County Fairgrounds with a cost of $5 per car load. Come learn about your county’s history.

Herbal Vinegar Workshop
Come join the Nature’s Thyme Herb Group as we learn about herbal vinegars on Tuesday night, October 6 at 7:00 pm. Members Paula Scott and Nancy Little will be leading this program which will cover the process of how to make herbal vinegars. The workshop will also include information on edible, cosmetic, household and culinary uses of these vinegars. Participants will enjoy delicious refreshments and will get to take home a bottle of herbal vinegar. The workshop will be at the Garrard County Extension Office and cost is $6.00. Participants will need to register before October 5, by calling the Garrard County Extension Office at (859)792-3026.

Volunteers For Commodities Distribution Needed
The Blue Grass Community Action Partnership in Garrard County is in need of volunteers to assist with the distribution of commodities on the third Tuesday of each month. The truck arrives at 10:00 a.m. at the Disabled American Veterans’ building. We need assistance with unloading the truck, sorting the food and distribution. If you are interested in volunteering a few hours once a month, please contact Mosella Stump at 792-3422.
Beekeeping Workshop
The Garrard County Extension Service is hosting a Bee Keeping Workshop starting Thursday, October 1st, 2009. Local bee keeper, Tom Prewitt, will take the participants through a twelve month cycle of a beehive. The material will be covered in a series of four Thursday night meetings, lasting about two hours each. The cost of the workshop is $75.00 per person or $125.00 for husband and wife. The cost includes a Bee Keeping Manual.
Trunk Or Treat
Trunk or Treat will be held Friday, October 31 at Buena Vista Baptist Church, 3385 Kennedy Bridge Road (KY 152) off US 27. Come join us for a chili/soup dinner at 6 pm. Trunk ot Treat from 7-9 pm. Wear your favorite costume and feel free to bring a friend.
Body Recall
Body Recall, a program for a lifetime of fitness. Body Recall helps you regain mobility, strength, energy and flexability. Body Recall is great for any age! The exercises are done in a chair and with a chair. Exercises are great for the heart patient, arthritic, strokes, diabetic, knees and hip replacements.
Classes will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday. New morning time 10:30 - 11:30 am and 1 -2 pm at the Garrard County Health Dept. Classes start September 3 - November 14. Christmas Assistance Program
The Garrard County Family Resource and Youth Services Centers will once again coordinate the Christmas Assistance Program for Garrard County children ages 0-18 years of age. Any business, organization, agency, or individual who would like to help a child (or children) should contact the Family Resource Center at 792-4756 or the Youth Services Center at 792-4677.
