Fire Destroys Paint Lick Diner
Fire destroyed Rick’s Diner, a popular restaurant and meeting place
in Paint Lick Monday night, as eight fire departments responded to the
scene.
Smoke and flames were shooting from the roof when the Cartersville-Paint Lick Fire Department arrived on the scene at 9:42 p.m. about seven minutes after receiving the call, Dean Vencill, the department’s assistant fire chief, said.

First Modules Delivered For Pattie A. Clay Site
Pattie A Clay Hospital’s plans to expand with a facility in Lancaster
have started showing along Richmond Street, just east of Lancaster.
Originally scheduled to open with three modular buildings by January of this year, a problem with the internal medicine office extended the plans to open in June. Then layoffs from the company manufacturing the modules affected the delivery date, pushing it back to Tuesday afternoon. Sections of the modules will continue to be delivered throughout the week.
Paint Lick Lady To Celebrate 100th Birthday
She most certainly does not look her age. Although she had many
illnesses (13 surgeries) in her lifetime and has not done anything
special for her health other than clean living and having a strong since
of faith, Arzelia Butner Rogers of Paint Lick will celebrate her 100th
birthday on September 20.
“People say I’m lucky,” she said with her bright blue eyes twinkling. “I say ‘no’, the Lord has blessed me.”
Residents Off Of Ky 1295 Get Water
From the Madison County line, back to Broadus Branch Road, Kirksville
residents have made due without running water by getting water hauled in
by the truckload.
Last Thursday work began to finally get running water to these Garrard residents through the work of State Representative Lonnie Napier, Judge Executive John Wilson and the Kirksville Water Association.
Paint Lick Man Arrested In Drug Bust In Berea
A 42-year-old Paint Lick man was arrested during a drug bust at a Berea home in mid-August.
Gregory Keith Botkins was arrested along with Stacy McMillin, 33, at his home on 112 Cherry Road where the alleged drug crimes occured.
Lancaster’s Subway restaurant was presented honors for having the cleanest store in the region on Friday afternoon. The Subway Corporation has three regions in Kentucky made up of the western and eastern parts of the state with Louisville making up its own region. The eastern region in which the Lancaster store is located includes around 190 stores.

Rural Heritage Festival And The Kentucky Historical Society Presents
Museums-to-Go are traveling panel exhibits that explore the humanities through historical images and lively text. The topics currently in circulation span history, literature, the arts, and science. The Rural Heritage will host the following two exhibits, "Discovering Kentucky's Lincoln" and "Breaking Barriers - African American Women of Kentucky", at the First Southern Community Room from September 8th - September 10th from 6:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. The museums will be moved to the Lancaster Baptist Church Family Life Center and be ready for public viewing again on Saturday, September 12th from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

September 4 - Stephen Scott Simpson, son of Mrs. Buford Simpson of Maple Avenue and the late Mr. Simpson has completed eight weeks of basic training in the US Air Force at San Antonio, Tx.
He is a 1965 graduate of Garrard County High School and received his degree in Business Administration from Eastern Kentucky University on June 1.
September 4 - Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rhodes of Williamsburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Jan Rhodes to Kenneth Hurt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry T. Hurt Jr. of Lancaster.
Miss Rhodes is a graduate of Whitley County High School. Mr. Hurt is a graduate of Garrard County High School. Both are seniors at Cumberland College.

September 7 - Geralyn Meny a senior at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas has been elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, a national honorary medical society. Only a select group of seniors are elected each year.
Geralyn is a 1976 graduate of Garrard County High School and received her BS Degree in Medicine from the University of Kentucky in 1980. She is the daughter of Regis and Blanche Meny of Lancaster.
September 7 - Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wilmot will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Sunday, September 17.
Elmer and the former Veda Matlock reside on Copper Creek Road. They are the parents of three children, Rhonda Ellis and Phyllis Hicks of Lancaster and Edward Wilmot of Berea.
