Free Arts Alive Concert Series

Chicken Dinner
Harmon’s Lick Church of God will be serving their chicken dinner on Friday, September 4 from 12 noon - 5 p.m. The menu will consist of chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, dessert and drink. Cost $6.00 adults, $3.00 children under 11 years. Proceeds will go toward the heating bill this winter.

Corn Hole Tournament
St. Paul Predestinarian Baptist Church will be having their 1st Corn Hole Tournament on September 5, 2009 at 406 South Campbell Street, Lancaster. Registration is at 10 a.m. with the tournament beginning at 11 a.m. Cost is $10 per person. Prizes will be awarded for 1st & 2nd place. Annual First Responder Service
First Assembly of God’s “Annual First Responder Service” will be held on September 13th beginning at 10 a.m. We will be honoring EMS workers, fire departments, city, county and state police. Guest speaker will be Gary Keylon of the “Power Team” displaying his super human power feats. There will be a free barbeque dinner served after the morning service. Everyone is invited to attend. Hopkins Family Reunion
The 45th annual Ewell and Ella Saylor Hopkins family reunion will be held Saturday afternoon, September 5, 2009. The reunion will be held under the large pavilion at the William Whitley House in Lincoln County, just off U.S. Highway 150 between Crab Orchard and Stanford, Kentucky. The reunion will begin around 3 p.m. Our afternoon meal will be potluck and will be served about 4 p.m. Soft drinks and water will be provided. The pavilion contains both men’s and ladies rest rooms. Cemetery Tour
There will be a cemetery tour of the black cemetery on Tuesday, September 8th. Narrator Cable Merritt Jr. will lead the tour. Come tour the Duncantown Cemetery and hear the stories of those buried there. Also learn the history of the Peacock House and the surrounding area. Tickets will be sold at the First Southern National Bank Community Room beginning at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $2.00 for adults, 50¢ children 6 and under. The tour begins at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited. The tour is sponsored by the Rural Heritage Festival.

The Alzheimer’s Association is presenting Dementia Care Workshops designed to enhance skills and expand knowledge for professionals providing direct care to persons with Dementia. Gospel Sing
There will be a Gospel Sing on September 10th beginning at 7 p.m. at the Hyattsville Baptist Church located on Richmond Road, Lancaster. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the music. The Gospel Sing is sponsored by the Rural Heritage Festival and hosted by Hyattsville Baptist Church.
Leaf Casting Workshop
Come join the Nature’s Thyme Herb Group for a Leaf Casting Workshop to be presented by Master Gardener Dale Crockett. Dale is a member of the Somerset Garden Club and owns a gift shop called Pine Cone Primitives. She is a folk artist, a glass painter, and a member of Sheltowee Artisans.
The workshop will be on Thursday, September 10th at 7:00p.m. at the Garrard County Extension Office. Participants will need to call the Extension office to pre-register by Sept. 8th (859)792-3026. This is important so that we have enough materials for everyone. They will also need to bring the following items with them: a large leaf that they want to cast (this can be an artificial leaf as long as the veins are pronounced), a piece of plywood or sturdy box big enough to hold the cast leaf, a pair of rubber gloves and $5.00 to cover the cost of the rest of the materials.

2009 Regional Senior/Boomer Games 5K Race!
The Berea Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the 2009 Regional Senior/Boomer Games 5K Race! The race will be held at the KY Artisans Center on September 12, 2009 at 9 a.m. On site registration will begin at 7:45 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for 10 age grups and for 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall. All registrants will receive a T-shirt. The Senior/Boomer 5K race is for all ages and is open to the public. Heritage Hospice Volunteer Training
Heritage Hospice, Inc. will host a Volunteer Training Session on Saturday, September 12 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Heritage Hospice Office at 120 Enterprise Drive in Danville. History Exhibits
Garrard County Family Genealogy, Garrard County Church History and Garrard County School History will be on display September 12 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Lancaster Baptist Church Family Life Center, corner of North Campbell Street and E. Maple Avenue. Also there will be Kentucky State Historical Society exhibits, discovering Kentucky’s Abe Lincoln, and Breaking Barriers - The African American Women of Kentucky.
Weed Kill At Sally Brown
Join us to help eradicate invasive weeds in the Sally Brown Nature Preserve on Saturday, September 12. Ham And Egg Breakfast
Lancaster Lodge No. 104 F. and A. M., located at 436 Industry Road, will sponsor a ham and egg breakfast on Saturday, September 12, 2009. The breakfast will be served to the public from 7:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M., and donations will be received at the door. Proceeds from the breakfast go to support projects of the Lodge, one of which is to give a scholarship to a graduating senior of Garrard County High School. Gospel Sing
The 2nd Annual Gospel Singing at McKnight Funeral Home (behind funeral home) will be held at 6 PM, on Saturday, September 12th. Please bring a chair if you can. The Ross Reunion will be Sunday, September 13th. It will be at the Kirksville Community Center at the Old School! Pot-luck lunch at 1 p.m.

Seed Sharing Workshop on Tuesday, Sepember 22 at 5:00 p.m. If you have a seed you would like to share then this work shop is for you. There will be a large variety of seeds from Rattlesnake Beans, and Desert King Golden Watermelon to Clematis Seed. We have lots of Gardening Books to help you plan for those spring gardens. Start saving all your wonderful seeds and bring them to the library to share.

“Ling Li Hua” Doll Making Workshop
The Berea Parks and Recreation Deptartment is pleased to offer: “Ling Li Hua” doll making workshop! Join Leslie Molen in learning how to create a beautiful and durable doll. The focus will be on needle sculpting a head, inserting glass eyes with an overlay and sewing, stuffing and color balance with fabrics will also be explored. The class will be held Thursday and Friday, September 17th and 18th, 2009 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Broadway building in Berea. Deadline for registration is September 12, 2009. Volunteers For Commodities Distribution Needed
The Blue Grass Community Action Partnership in Garrard County is in need of volunteers to assist with the distribution of commodities on the third Tuesday of each month. The truck arrives at 10:00 a.m. at the Disabled American Veterans’ building. We need assistance with unloading the truck, sorting the food and distribution. If you are interested in volunteering a few hours once a month, please contact Mosella Stump at 792-3422.
