Support the Marching Band

Dear Editor,

In preparation of the upcoming marching band season and a trip to Bands of America in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Garrard County Marching Lions have begun fundraising efforts to carry them through next season. On April 25th, the band participated in two events that were supported by local businesses and individuals. The band would like to thank J & Sons Processing and VIP for their donations. A very special thank you is extended to the following: Quick Stop for their outstanding generosity, Bob and Ruth Hammonds for their wonderful grilling and Paula and Frances Eads for all their hard work and the donation of all of the live plants that were sold during the Earth Day Festival. Thank you also to all of the parents and band members that volunteered their time to work at both fundraising events.

Thank you in advance to County Judge Executive John Wilson for declaring Saturday, May 16th as Band Aid Day. Band parents and members will be present in the Town Square collecting donations and local businesses will be participating also. The band is very grateful to all who have donated and purchased items during our past fundraisers and will be most appreciative of all donations and support that they receive during Band Aid and future fundraisers. This support will help the band raise the thousands of dollars that is needed for the upcoming season.

The Garrard County Marching Band is an outstanding group of band directors and students who consistently bring pride to our county. While the band is now recognized statewide, with community support, we will be recognized nationally.

Thank You For Your Support,
Rhonda Eads
Garrard County Band Boosters Fundraising Chairperson

The Poetry Continues

Dear Editor,

Three Bs In A Pod

There’s Bill and Billy
And Bobby makes three
They call it a group
But it’s just a trio to me.

Then there’s the lawyer
But he’ll go either way
It just depends on
Who’s willing to pay.

Think I’ll just call them
The Three Bullpoopeteers
Cause really describes
What they’re trying to smear.

When I think about it
It seems so amazing
How these grown men
Got so far above their raising.

Hurt the town’s water supply
Now they know any runoff can’t
Cause it goes from the lake
Through the water treatment plant.

If they think cow manure’s so nasty
Then they best realize
People put it on their gardens
Just to make good fertilize.

So there goes the vegetables
Last time ruled out meat
So I guess crow and apples
Is all that’s left for you to eat.

Maybe when you finish dining
On your meal of fresh crow
You could just top it off
With some cow pie alamode.

Here’s a shining example of
How some people think
When trying to smell something
That doesn’t even stink.

I looked out my window
And what did I see
One of Mr. Noe’s steers
Just starting to pee.

It was hitting the ground
With a stream and a splatter
He just stood right there
Till he emptied his bladder.

Why that will run over the hill
Right into city lake
And ruin the water
For goodness sakes.

So I called their lawyer
To see what he could do
He said you have no money sir
So I can’t help you.

To explain these guys selfish thinking
You can do that with ease
They simply can’t see the forest
Because of all the trees.
